NO RUGBY WEDNESDAY & PREDATOR EVENTS

Firstly I would like to congratulate the predators on a stunning performance last weekend. It was great to see the boys putting there new skills into good use. Aside from the usual try fest  the highlights for me and there were lots of them,  were the passing skills shown by all., the Daffyd & Ethan switch, great try saving  tagging from Rhys M & Rhys T,  Very good running and passing from Will, Josh, Josa and  great team built scores from James and Ethan. Well done on the narrow win against an especially strong tag side. We are really starting to play some great rugby and this will be a good platform for next season when we loose the tags. PS; I'm sure you will all wish Tony a speedy recovery and look forward to having him back soon!!

The Predators start wednesday night indoor training --------------6-7pm----------

Tomorrow night we will launch our very first indoor training session. The venue will be at Oystermouth School, Newton Road, Main Gym. This is the big yellow building on stilts near the main gate, opposite home from home. To begin with we will try and make the sessions with the main focus on fun rugby, covering Tag Tactics for the final year. As the weeks move on we plan to introduce contact rugby in preparation for next year.

We would be grateful if all the predators could attend as much as possible. In return we will make sure that all the players are fully prepared for the exciting games ahead. We have had to pre book the space on block, so we will be asking for a £2 per week subs fee to cover the cost of the room, we can talk more about this on Wednesday.

This week it is very important that I update all Mums & Dads on club news and some formalities so we would be grateful if at least one next of kin could be there for each registered Predator. Any questions you would like to ask or cover then feel free on the night. C U All tomorrow, Jon.

I am going to propose that we meet indoors on the Wednesday, I will post details on the blog after Sunday.

Predators vs Gorseignon

A great turnout on Sunday nearly enabled us to field two teams. The new players are starting to find their feet with good performances from them all. It was especially good to see Luca make his first appearance and win a few good yards. Daf put a good performance in with him side stepping like Shane Williams. Rhys scored a super try with excellent suport play. James made some great runs as did Josh and Dylan to name but a few.
The passes were linking well and we saw some very unselfish play. Big thanks to Gorseinon who played with determination throughout.
Well done Mumbles who looked like they were getting back into the groove today.

A big congratulations to Jon and Tracy who completed a charity bike ride from Cardiff  to Paris this week so we look forward to seeing Jon back in the saddle next Sunday.
We are stilling looking for a mid week indoor venue for training perhaps on a Wednesday if anyone has any ideas.
PS Seem to be a bit low on Tag Belts so if anyone is stockpiling them we have tag belt amnesty next Sunday.

Cheers Tony, Chris and David

Tuesday 20 September 2011

Match against Gorseinon

We have a match planned against Gorseinon at home (Bishopston). Please meet at 10.15am.

Sunday 18 September 2011

Driving rain and wind didn't stop the Predators!!

Well Done all players old and new today for the extra efforts in the pouring rain and wind in what were some particularly strong visiting rugby teams . The three games played were very competitive on and off the park and although we faced a very strong Bridgend side we did get our first win on our new pitch over Fall Bay.

The predators welcomed three new starters this week and also the return of some old faces who made excellent contribution to the rugby enjoyed by all. Tony, Dave, Chris and I have decided to take a maximum of twenty registrations this year which means we only have circa five places left. So any school friends are welcome. Please pass on the word.

At the end of this season we will be saying goodbye to the tag belts and tags and from what I witnessed today I feel all the boys will enjoy what next season has to offer. Nevertheless we will be looking more closely at the semi contact game on Wednesday nights (indoors over the winter) to stand the predators in good stead for next season. Before mid-week training starts I would like to get all the parents together to pass on some latest news from the club and talk about fixtures this year and next. I am not available this week as i am on the bike for charity, however keep an eye on the blog over the next few weeks for the date and time for the get together.

The plan for the next few weeks is as follows:

25/09/11   Home Training - Contact Tony, Chris or Dave for this week.
 02/10/11   Morriston (a)
 09/10/11   Gowerton (h)

See you all in two weeks - Jon.

South Gower , Away , 10.15am meet!!

Hope you all enjoyed last weeks junior cracker sevens. Gowerton and South Gower had a great time, I had great feedback from both clubs !! Thanks to everyone who helped out and I'm told that the club raised over a thousand pounds on the day!! The longest kick stall that the predators run also raised over £30 for the bank account.

I am meeting with Robin next week to organise some winter kit, so I will bring you all up to speed when we meet. Please pass on to all that the season has officially started!! See you all sunday!!

Monday 22 August 2011

JUNIOR CRACKER SEVENS = THIS SATURDAY = UNDERHILL PARK

Hello everyone, I hope all you rugby players have enjoyed a must needed rest and are looking forward to what I'm sure will be a fabulous season for The Predators.

We will start our preparation with a refresher training session and  games against South Gower and Gowerton on Saturday at the Junior Cracker Sevens, Fun day. (Underhill Park).

We will meet at 10.30 am, ( I will be on the park from 9am). We have the benefit of the same set up as the seniors on Sunday, however this year we can have a fundraiser stall. I have marked us down for the longest kick, so any volunteers would be appreciated. If anyone would like to do another fundraiser on the day then please contact me so I can get the clubs permission, however we may also be able to do a raffle/lucky dip or lottery if there are no other takers from the junior sides. Hope to see you all on Saturday, the event runs from 9am to circa 3pm with Food stalls & rugby, fete type activities plus adults tug of war and tag games.

PS: We need to top up on players this year so if you have any friends older, same age or younger then please bring them along to try out TAG RUGBY!

Coach Jon.

Wednesday 11 May 2011

A big thank you to all !!!

A big thank you to all for successfully feeding what seemed like 5000 on Saturday!! It was very interesting watching Josh and Wills Dads with cooking aprons on feeding all the teams!! An extra thank you to the Mums as well for helping the Predators run a very successful day and especially to Josh's mum (Liz) who continued to sell burgers into the night during a very enjoyable night up at the cricket club!

All the stock left over was sold in the end, raising just under £400 for the Predators next season. This is a little short of our target for the wish list, however Robin (Junior Chairman) and Justin (Chairman) have kindly pledged to make up the numbers for our new kit if required next season in return for feeding all the home and away teams free of charge.

Congratulations to Gwen for there results across the park on the day. It provided us with a great target for the standard of play I'm sure we will experience next season!!

Last but not least, I would like to thank all the Predators, coaches and helpers for what has been a very enjoyable season for all. Keep an eye on the Blog for some practice get together sessions through the summer.

Hope you all enjoyed the presentation presents and I look forward to see you all soon. Jon.

ps:any photo's of the day, please send to Tracy and we will attach then as a link!!!

Wednesday 4 May 2011

SATURDAY 7th May - Rugby Finale @ UNDERHILL (not Bish) - 9.30am meet!

Hope all you predators enjoyed the Easter break and the weather, not like me who went to Spain had a great time with the family, however suffered lots of wind and rain for the first week!!!

U7's - BBQ food, games and selling refreshments !!

As you know from previous blogs, this Saturday is our chance to raise some welcome funds for next season and maybe even raise enough cash for some new kit? There is lots of rugby on the park from 10.30 am onwards and later in the day some cricket for those who may want to hang around a little longer. The touring side are bringing circa six sides so fingers crossed for some good weather and lots of customers as we have gambled on plenty of stock to sell! We will offer the following :

BBQ, REFRESHMENTS, TEA, COFFEE, SNACKS, CAKES, RAFFLE ETC.

With regards to the raffle table,  please can I ask for a contribution from each player/ family. We plan to sell tickets for £1 so if you can manage please bring a bottle of  Plonk or a Box of Chocolates or a small rugby present that we can offer as prizes. As far as the rest of the stock is concerned that has already been purchased and it is up to us to sell and have some fun along the way!! Liz (Josh's Mum) & Natalie (Wills Mum) have kindly offered to bake some cakes and run the snacks stall, Spencer has volunteered to be head chef for the BBQ ( I'm sure there will be plenty of others who will want to flip a burger or two). The coaches will also get stuck in as well. I will have plenty of jobs for others so please don't be shy and get stuck in like a proud predator parent!!!  It would be nice if all predators could meet at 9.30 - 10am even though our game is a little later so we can set up, I have tables for the stalls etc and Tony has whipped the school Barby for the day, however any gazebos, chairs you have please bring them along if you wish so we can use them just in case we have the dreaded rain. See you all then!!

On to the Rugby.

Its hard to believe that we are at the end of the rugby season and next year will be our last season of tag. We finish this year hosting  Gwernyfed RFC (kick off 11am), I am reliably informed they are a strong team!
In traditional format we will all be welcoming the under 6's from the beach and formally introduce them to the grass game, so we also can look forward to some fun mixed age games.

Thanks Again - Jon

Next week we have been invited for two tournaments with visiting teams from over the bridge, I Will bring all the details to training,  please note the one tournament is held on Saturday and the other on Sunday next week. I am happy to take a team to both days, however please have a think to see if you can do either Saturday or Sunday or if you would like to do the two days. Coaches can you also let me know!! The tournaments are local (south gower and dunvant) but will involve up to 3 games each day.

Please can you also put the 7th of May in your diary, for a local rugby fun day  & BBQ.

Morriston Match Report!

Morriston 3 Mumbles 6

Once again a fantastic performance by the Predators! It was a wet and windy morning again this week and at one stage we were concerned that we may not field a team due to the weather and an early start. After some last minute arrivals that was soon all forgotten.

The Predators conceded the first try to a well organised Morriston side. The Predators then woke up and came alive and soon got into their normal tactic of tagging and try scoring. Some of the most pleasing play this week was watching the young lads start passing the ball before getting tagged, we all agreed afterwards that this can be a great way of creating space to allow other players to run in trys. However once again the most impressive part of play was our relentless tagging of the Morriston players which all the Predators agreed won us the game.

Special mention to Oli this week who is becoming a real tag specialist, had some great runs and was unlucky not to score. Josa & Joseph again had some great tags and some long touch line runs, however were also unlucky not to score as the out lines got in the way. Torrin (2), Louis (2), Rhys T & Rhys M all got trys with Daff setting up tries, tagging and pressure tagging from the off. Keep up the great work boys!!!Well done all Predators!!!

This week we are back at home. Hurray!! The plan is a Bish meet at 10.30am when we will host a very strong Gowerton side. We expect large numbers from Gowerton so it would be fantastic if we get a full squad this week then maybe we can have two games. Keep an eye on the blog for updates!

Saturday 5 February 2011

Early start tomorrow!

We have an away game against Morriston. Due to the Swansea vs Cardiff game later on in the day, we will be kicking-off at 10.00am. So please meet for 9.30am to allow time for warm-up etc.

South Gower Match Report

Mumbles 10 : South Gower 5
Well what can I say - it all came together for the Predators today. So many highlights to talk about. Lots of tries (as below) but what was particularly pleasing was some great work in the centre of the park.

Well done to Rhys Morgan for some excellent running forward and straightening up the line several times which later resulted in a try. Rhys Taylor had some great runs today and unselfishly passed twice to set up two tries. Josa had a 3/4 pitch run, some great tagging and was very unlucky not to score on his birthday. Happy Birthday Josa! Oliver showed his skills running with 'both hands on the ball' and helped setting up a try by passing to Ethan without being tagged.

Well done James P and James B for what I can only describe as some great pressure tags from every kick off. Ethan scored a well rewarded try after some great support play throughout the game. Some tremendous runs from Louis gave him the space to bag 5 tries for the Predators.

Tries: Louis 5; James P. 3; Ethan 1; Rhys M. 1.

However, the most impressive work today was the 'team effort'. Our fantastic tagging was ultimately the deciding factor of Mumbles winning the game.
There were 8 'man of the match' awards today!
Well done from Coach Jon (blog), Tony(on field) & Dave(subs).

Link to photo's taken by Oliver's family. Thanks to Katherine.

Note to parents - Mums and Dads we have done quite well over the last 2 years with regards to finances, however we have a small overdraft after the Xmas period. Following the last Mums and Dads meeting it was agreed that we contribute £10 per player in order to start an account to pay for some team sundries. Please, if you haven't already, can you pass the contribution to Tim (Rhys Taylor's Dad/Treasurer) or Tracy. This will give us a little kick-start account. For next year both Penny (Louis's Mum) and Spencer (Joshua's Dad) have agreed to help with some fundraising for new kit etc. However, we will probably look for a direct debit or standing order of circa £5/month per player next season. Hope this is all OK. Any questions please do not hesitate to speak to me, Jon.

Saturday 22 January 2011

South Gower Away this week, 10 30 am meet!

There could be some risk of cancellation this week, due to the frosty weather. Please, keep an eye on the blog, the pitch inspection will happen for about 9 30am. We will update you as soon as there is any news, hope to see you all for 10 30am. See the web link below for directions.

Sunday 16 January 2011

Lots of tries at rainy Dunvant!

To be fair it was definitely cold, wet and windy today. A big well done to all the Predators for sticking it out to the final whistle - it was worth it! There was some good passing, running and plenty of tries - and a first from Josa. Good work! We do however need to work on our tagging and getting back into line after scoring a try.

Next Sunday we are penciled in for an away game at South Gower. Please keep an eye on the blog for confirmation and details.

Below is a web link to a photo gallery created by Oliver's Mum (Katharine). We hope to create this link as a permanent feature for the boys to enjoy.
